Frequently Asked Questions
Bike Angels 101
Does moving bikes help fellow riders?
Yes! Each bike a Bike Angel moves typically helps at least one fellow rider by freeing up a dock or supplying a bike. Often, this rider in turn enables another trip, and the Bike Angel's efforts continue to be paid forward!
How do I earn points?
Bike Angels earn points whenever they pick-up a bike from a station indicated on our Bike Angels map in need of dock space or drop-off a bike at a station in need of bikes. Check out all the rules underneath the map!
I took a trip that should've earned points but I wasn't emailed. Help?
Feel free to fill out this missing points form and we'll make sure to investigate the trip for you and add any missing points to your account a few days before the end of the month. The most common reason points aren't earned when expected is because the trip started at a Drop Off station or ended at a Pick Up station. Those trips don't earn points because they're less likely to balance the system and help a fellow rider!
How can I check my total Bike Angel points online?
The Check Your Points button of course. Also, within 15 minutes of docking on a point-earning trip, you'll be emailed with trip totals and your point total for that trip, the current month, and the current year.
Is there a limit to the points I can earn in a month?
Nope. We've seen Bike Angels rack up thousands of points in a month (yes, thousands); the more the merrier!
Which stations can earn points?
All stations have the ability to earn points depending on the demand for bikes and docks. Often times, there's a station only one or two blocks away from your destination that can earn points with only a slight adjustment to your route.
When are rewards distributed?
Some of the rewards such as a day pass will be sent automatically when the 10th point is earned. We distribute all other rewards Bike Angels in the first week of the following month, but we're working to automate them further :)
How do I turn on the map layer in the Citi Bike iPhone app?
If the Bike Angels map layer isn't appearing for you after attempting to log off and back on, we recommend deleting and re-installing the app.
